4.0 Richter Scale Earthquake Hits Sincik, Adiaman County, Central Turkey – No Victims or Damage Reported

An earthquake measuring 4.0 on the Richter scale occurred last night with its epicenter at Sincık, Adiaman County, Central Turkey.

A statement about the earthquake, published on the social network X, by the Directorate of Emergencies and Combating Natural Disasters of the Ankara Presidency (AFAD) specified that the earthquake with a magnitude of 4.0 on the Richter scale was registered last night at 11:37 p.m. (10:37 p.m. Bulgarian time).

The depth of the earthquake is 7.3 kilometers. There is no information about victims, injured or serious material damage. The earthquake caused a brief panic among the population in the county town where there is higher construction.

Turkish geologist Prof. Dr. Naji Görür made a statement after the earthquake on social media. “This earthquake is on the East Anatolian fault and very close to the Bitlis-Zagros thrust zone. Lately we have hum activity, and for this reason we can consider the earthquake to be secondary. We expect this seismic activity to continue in the area. I am asking the population for calm, which at the moment we do not expect tremors above 4.5 Richter scale,” he concluded.
