Things didn’t work out with Dynamo Dresden, but now Tom Zimmerschied is fulfilling his dream of playing in the 2nd Bundesliga. The 25-year-old is moving to SV Elversberg with immediate effect. Both clubs have agreed to keep the transfer details confidential. According to “Bild”, Dynamo will receive a transfer fee of around 400,000 euros.
Smart move?
Compensation for a painful loss. Zimmerschied moved from Hallescher FC to SGD in the summer of 2023 and scored five goals and provided twelve assists in 37 competitive matches. He had not played this season due to a back injury. He could have left Dynamo on a free transfer next year.
However, the transfer makes sporting sense for the player and financial sense for us as a club, so we didn’t want to put any obstacles in Tom’s way
Thomas Brendel, Managing Director of Sports at SGD
All of this must have played a role in the considerations of those responsible at SGD. “Tom approached us with the wish to be able to take the next step in his development this season and move to the 2nd Bundesliga. We know about his qualities on the pitch and would therefore have liked to see him continue to be part of our team. However, the transfer makes sporting sense for the player and financial sense for us as a club, so we didn’t want to put any obstacles in Tom’s way,” said Thomas Brendel, SGD’s sports director.
Zimmerschied: “Exciting task and challenge”
Zimmerschied was born in Koblenz and played for SpVgg. Unterhaching until the U19s. In 2017, he moved to VfB Garching in the regional league. After three years, the fast winger moved briefly to Austria. After returning to Germany, he ended up at Hallescher FC and was immediately one of the top scorers.
After securing a regular place in Dresden, he now wants to prove his skills in the 2nd division and signed a three-year contract in Elversberg. “I recently had a very good exchange with the club officials and am now looking forward to the opportunity to play with the team and for the SVE in the 2nd Bundesliga. It will be an exciting task and challenge, but I am convinced that we will experience a positive time together here,” explained Zimmerschied.
