North Korea carried out a surprise launch of its third military reconnaissance satellite at about 10:43 last night, about an hour earlier than the announced deadline.

Then, three hours later, it was declared that “the launch was successful.”

The Korean Central News Agency reported that the reconnaissance satellite ‘Manrikyeong-1’ was successfully launched by mounting it on a new satellite carrier rocket at the West Sea Satellite Launch Center in Cholsan County, North Pyongan Province.

“It flew normally along the flight trajectory and accurately placed the reconnaissance satellite into orbit in about 12 minutes.”

It was also reported that Chairman Kim Jong-un personally observed the launch on site and warmly congratulated the officials.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff said, “The aircraft was captured immediately after launch, tracked and monitored, and the three countries of Korea, the United States, and Japan are sharing information,” and “we are comprehensively analyzing detailed specifications.”

However, the position is that we will have to wait and see whether the orbital entry is successful.

This is the third time that North Korea has launched a reconnaissance satellite this year, and in both the first and second rockets, the rocket failed to ignite or fell during abnormal flight.

Since the launch appears to have been successful from the ground this time, additional confirmation appears to be needed to ensure it accurately enters space orbit and operates.

Our military authorities, who have raised their alert status, reported that South Korea, the United States, and Japan are preparing together by placing Aegis destroyers on standby in waters designated by each country.
