As part of the National Resistance and Deportation Competition, 3rd grade students from Jean-Monnet College in Castres in the Tarn have done reconstruction work to be seen at the media library.
It is the result of a long investigative work recently presented at the media library (avenue du Sidobre), 14 3rd grade students from the Jean Monnet college in Castres, as part of the National Resistance and Deportation Competition.
All volunteers and invested, accompanied in this process by two history and geography teachers from the college: Amélie Bouyssou and Adèle Barthas, the college students explained their journey to carry out a project to reconstruct a classroom during the Second World War. world, at the media library. Upstream, the young people collected testimonies from “old people” in two EHPADs and from the Lameilhé neighborhood committee. Painstaking work with the departmental archives of Albi was still on the program for this meaningful approach which is perfectly in line with the duty of memory.
The classroom is presented through the prism of an investigation game and each visitor to the media library can participate in the enigma proposed by the young college students. This exhibition is visible until the symbolic date of June 6th. Among these pupils, Nathan and Antoine, 14 years old each, express all their interest, involved “to deepen the history, to discover the living conditions during the war”, both also appreciating, “this playful approach. Yes, we talk with the family, we see films, but there, it’s different”, actors of their project!
“With this work, you have already won…”
After the presentation of this work to the public, Brigitte Artaut, principal of the college “congratulated the students concerned, thanked the partners in the service of this collective work which contributes to strengthening the values of our nation”. For their part, Amélie Bouyssou highlighted “the investment of the students who often combine several workshops and the richness of the relationships maintained with the people met in the EHPAD”.
While Adèle Barthas, while waiting to know if the students will be selected for the national competition, addressed them: “With this work, you have already won… when you take on the role of memory smuggler, you do show empathy, we don’t settle for ready-to-think, it says a lot about the citizen you are becoming!”
