Aceh residents are asked to improve environmental cleanliness and clean and healthy living behavior (PHBS) to prevent the transmission of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF). This disease can cause death and can occur due to an unclean environment.

Head of the Disease Prevention and Control (P2P) Division of the Aceh Health Service, Dr. Iman Murahman, said that cases of dengue fever occurred because people’s lifestyle did not pay attention to environmental cleanliness.

“Various efforts have been made to prevent the spread of dengue fever outbreaks. “One of them is the 3M Plus method, namely draining, closing and reusing used waste that has economic value,” he said in Banda Aceh, Thursday (21/12/2023).

Iman explained that the 3M Plus method is a dengue prevention strategy that is effective and easy for the public to implement. This method aims to eliminate breeding places for the Aedes aegypti mosquito, the vector that causes dengue fever.

“Draining is the activity of cleaning or draining places that often become water reservoirs, such as bathtubs, jugs, water towers, drums and other water reservoirs. “The walls of the tub and water reservoir must also be scrubbed to clean and remove mosquito eggs that are tightly attached to the walls,” he explained.

“Closing is the activity of tightly closing water reservoirs such as bathtubs or drums. “Closing can also be interpreted as the activity of burying used items in the ground so as not to make the environment dirtier and potentially become a nest for mosquitoes,” he added.

Meanwhile, reusing used goods with economic value (recycling), said Iman, is a recommended activity to reuse or recycle used goods which have the potential to become breeding grounds for dengue fever mosquitoes.

“Used items such as plastic bottles, cans, used tires, etc. can be reused into useful items, such as flower pots, handicrafts, children’s toys, and so on. “Apart from reducing waste, this activity can also increase people’s creativity and income,” he said.

Efforts of the Krueng Barona Jaya Health Center

The same thing was also conveyed by the DBD Program Manager at Krueng Barona Jaya Health Center, Aceh Besar Regency, Imraini, Skm. He said that his party routinely monitors mosquito larvae twice a year or every six months. Usually one village has 20 houses for the sample.

“Krueng Barona Jaya Community Health Center also has activities with ambulances. Ambulances also traveled around the villages of 12 villages in Krueng Barona Jaya. “So far, according to our monitoring in our area, the villages are quite clean and people are starting to become aware of the prevention of dengue fever,” he said.

According to Imraini, during this rainy season, environmental cleanliness is one of the factors that has the potential to cause the spread of dengue fever. Therefore, people must have behavior that reflects clean and healthy living in order to avoid various infectious diseases, one of which is dengue fever.

“Apart from that, a form of prevention that can be done by the public is by knowing some of the symptoms of dengue fever, such as fever up to 40 degrees Celsius followed by severe headaches and muscle aches. “If we feel or find people around us experiencing these symptoms, immediately go to the nearest health facility to get a diagnosis and treatment as early as possible from health workers,” he said.

Imraini added that dengue fever outbreaks usually start to increase in the middle of the rainy season, this is due to the increasing number of mosquito breeding places due to increased rainfall.

“The community is expected to play a significant role in this matter. “Therefore, preventive steps that can be taken are efforts to prevent dengue fever with 3M Plus,” he concluded. (Adv)
