Bill de Blasio, mayor of New York City, highlighted that the number of doses of vaccines administered reached 3,455,877 in NYC.
He reported that, as part of the vaccination campaign, this week temporary centers will be installed in some churches in the city: Leviticus Church in Queens; Christian Cultural Center and Good Shepard Lutheran Church in Brooklyn; and First Corinthian Baptist Church in Manhattan.
He also announced that by the year 2022, the preschool program of 3K for everyone it will be implemented in all school districts.
This preschool program, exclusively for 3-year-olds, is free, runs for about 6 hours, and provides good quality early care and education.
Regarding the expansion of 3K, it was detailed that 16,500 spaces will be added immediately in new school districts.
During her participation, the Chancellor of the Department of Education, Meisha Ross Porter, stressed that with this free program, families will be able to dedicate their resources to other aspects.
For his part, the councilman, Francisco Moya, highlighted the beneficial impact that this educational program will bring to Latino families.
Regarding the new indicators used to measure progress in the fight against coronavirus, the most recent data showed:
- Number of positive cases admitted to hospitals: 248 (54%)
- Number of hospitalizations per 100,000 population, 7-day median (NYS): 3.79
- COVID-19 reported cases, 7-day average: 3,282
- Percentage of patients who tested positive, 7-day average: 6.36%
