Like the Vienna Vikings’ ELF games of weeks 4-6, the 39th Austrian Bowl will also take place in the Wiener Neustadt stadium.
The reason for this is the unavailability of the NV Arena in St. Pölten as well as the stadiums in Vienna. The Hohe Warte and sports club square will be renovated in the summer. The Generali Arena, the Tivoli Stadium and the Wörthersee Stadium in Klagenfurt were apparently not an option. For the first time since 2010 (Friday Night Game at Tivoli), an Austrian Bowl will not be played on a Saturday. The last AFL final on a Sunday was on July 4, 1993 in the South City.
The association is expecting a “mega football weekend in Wiener Neustadt”, as the Vienna Vikings will play a European League of Football game against Prague in the ERGO Arena one day before the Austrian Bowl.
The final of the women’s championship will take place before the Austrian Bowl. This year it will be run by three clubs six games of the regular season and the Ladies Bowl decided.
“What is new this year is the location of the Austrian Bowl, the date on Sunday and the fact that this time the women are also playing their grand final as part of this football festival. I’m looking forward to the double event with the European League of Football because I think the fans can expect a very exciting weekend full of football.” said AFBÖ General Secretary Christoph Seyrl.
