A 39-year-old woman has just been sentenced to six months in prison, prosecuted for insults and violence against the mayor of Manom at the end of August. Several witnesses had witnessed the scene, on the day of the patronal festival in the northern Moselle town.

The defendant did not attend her trial before the Thionville criminal court. She is 39 years old, she receives RSA and she lives in Orléans according to her lawyer. On August 27, she was in Manom. She attended the patronal celebration, except that the demonstration had gone wrong at the end of the day. The thirty-year-old mother was prosecuted for insults and violence against the mayor of the town. The chosen one had to be operated on for a broken wrist. She was prescribed 15 days of total incapacity for work.
The court has just sentenced the alleged attacker to six months in prison. He also orders the revocation of a three-month suspended sentence in 2022, as well as a ban on contacting the mayor of Manom and appearing in the town for three years.
The defendant was already known to the courts; her record has six mentions, notably for insults and violence. At the end of the trial, the defense lawyer, Mr. Blanc, intended to advise his client to appeal. This would have only repelled the mayor’s hand. “She did not know her status as an elected official,” insists Me Blanc.
A dispute over inflatable structures
On August 27, the defendant allegedly climbed on inflatable structures reserved for children. The deputy first asked him to get out. A priori, she expressed her dissatisfaction and went to disconnect the power supply to the structure. The mayor, Marie-Laurence Herfeld, intervened, things got out of hand. Several witnesses witnessed the scene. In their version, the pushed mayor fell. Her son took a slap, her daughter took out her phone but the defendant grabbed it before it broke on the ground.
The investigation found the theft of the cell phone but the court reclassified the offense as degradation of which the defendant was also found guilty. The slap on the son, without ITT, is a fine and will cost him 150 euros.
Compensation for the mayor requires medical expertise and will be discussed at a subsequent hearing on civil interests.
