Anyone who registered could scoop up their bag and donate an amount to support the farmers.

“There are huge surpluses in agriculture. Not only potatoes, but also carrots, aubergines and onions, that’s all in the Dutch barns. Due to corona, we no longer have any exports and no catering companies that purchase them, so it all stays put ‘, says Jur Jacobs, one of the initiators.
“I think this is very funny to do, then I will just experiment with potatoes for a week, so not just chips, of course,” said a man who just filled a bag.
‘We no longer eat these potatoes, then they are used to make animal feed or biogas while they are high-quality food. So a shame if it’s wasted in those kinds of ways, ”Jacobs explains.

In various places in the country, farmers have offered their potatoes to consumers from their shed and this is the first time that such a campaign has taken place in a central location in a city. “We hope that we will be able to keep more of this type of campaign soon, and we have already received requests from the Flevopolder and Eindhoven,” said Jacobs.
