Aftenposten contacted 275 politicians who have had commuter accommodation in the years that the Swedish Revenue Agency investigated. A small number of those who have to pay more taxes choose to be open about it.
Barely a year has passed since the storm that hit the then minister and leader of the KrF Kjell Ingolf Ropstad, when the Aftenposten published the first case in what is called the “commuter housing scandal”.
In the wake of Aftenposten’s revelations, the Swedish Revenue Agency conducted a comprehensive survey of 290 politicians’ use of commuter accommodation over the period 2017-2020.
