At the moment, about 38 percent of all infections in Groningen are caused by the Delta variant of the corona virus. This is evident from figures from GISAID, a worldwide study center that maps the genetic material of viruses and monitors the spread.
The number of positive tests has risen sharply in Groningen since the end of June. The percentage of positive tests, compared to the total number of tests, is also on the rise again.
The Delta variant is twice as contagious as the ‘first variant’ of the coronavirus, which entered our country in March last year. Current vaccines work against this variant.
