The Public Prosecution Service (OM) will prosecute a 37-year-old Pakistani for sedition, threats and attempted incitement to murder. He is suspected of having offered around 21,000 euros in 2018 via a video on the internet for the murder of PVV leader Geert Wilders.
The suspect was staying in Pakistan at the time of the shooting. That’s where he is now. The Netherlands has asked Pakistan to hand over the summons to him.
It is not certain whether the country will cooperate. Pakistan has previously not responded to the request of the Netherlands to hear the suspect.
The Netherlands does not have a legal assistance treaty with Pakistan and therefore the Asian country is not obliged to cooperate. The hearing will take place on August 29. The Pakistani authorities have until then to cooperate in the transfer of the suspect, an OM spokesperson confirms.
The Public Prosecution Service initially did not want to confirm that it was a threat to Wilders. Justice spoke in a message from “a member of parliament”. Shortly afterwards, the PVV leader confirmed on Twitter that it was about a threat addressed to him.
The suspect is reportedly a former cricketer. He is a celebrity in Pakistan. As a result, the Dutch police and the Public Prosecution Service were able to identify him.
