On the 17th, Inter Miami‘s Argentina forward Lionel Messi (37) received the Marca America Award sponsored by the Spanish newspaper Marca.
Marca awarded Messi the unique award as he is the player with the most titles (46) in the history of football. After receiving the award, the all-time legend said the following:
“I’m not counting the titles I’ve won, especially the individual awards.”
“(The video of me looking back on my career) was amazing. A lot of things went through my head, including the painful ones. Not everything that happened up until now was beautiful. Disappointments are what led to growth. That’s it.”
Messi achieved his long-awaited World Cup victory in 2022. Do you still have the motivation and goals to play football?
“I’ve achieved all my dreams. I’ve accomplished more than I ever dreamed of as a child. It’s a gift from God.”
“I was able to win the World Cup, which a player dreams of more than anything else. With Barcelona, the club of my life, I won many trophies, as well as with PSG and now with Inter. I look forward to many more in the future. I’ll fight to win what’s right for me.”
“I love playing football.The other day I played for the Argentina national team at the Monumental Stadium and everyone was shouting my name and my teammates’ names.I had some bad experiences with the Argentina national team, but now I’m grateful to have had this moment.”
“I want to enjoy these days to the fullest. Time is coming to an end.”
Messi rules out the possibility of retiring immediately. He has shown his desire to make Inter Miami a bigger club.
“I want to make this club bigger. I didn’t come here to retire.”
“I’ve fought so hard to get to this moment, and I’m enjoying it more than ever. I seem to love things even more when the end is near.”
Does he have any desire to participate in the 2026 World Cup?
“I don’t want to say anything in advance. I want to enjoy each day. I’ll understand when the time comes and there’s no need to fast-forward time. I want to stay at the level I’m at to be happy. It would be great if I could maintain it, but I’m not looking to see if I can make it to the World Cup.”
