A 37-meter-long cat is the new drawn figure found in the mountains of the Nazca desert – the feline, now found by Peruvian archaeologists, joins the famous geoglyphs that have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1994.
It is the most recent archaeological treasure in Peru and comes to enrich the so-called Nazca Lines, a set of hundreds of geoglyphs that extend over 80 kilometers and, in some cases, reach two hundred meters. This figure dates from the years 200 to 100 BC, experts believe.
The cat is thought to have been designed between 200 BC and 100 BC and, according to the Peruvian Ministry of Culture in a statement, “it was almost disappearing because it is located on a hill that is very affected by the effects of natural erosion”.
“It is surprising that new figures can still be identified, but we know that there are still others to be found. In recent years, the use of drones has made this possible, ”archaeologist Jhonny Isla, responsible for the management system of the Nazca-Palpa Archaeological Park, told Efe.
