At least 37 civilians have been killed and 212 injured in an explosion and armed attack in Mogadishu, Somalia, reports the news agency Reuters. The country’s health minister Ali Haji says that 11 of the injured are in critical condition.
According to the police, it is a suicide attack that took place at a restaurant near a popular beach late on Friday.
According to the state leadership, the terrorist organization al-Shabaab is behind the attack.
One of the attackers died in the explosion. Three suspected attackers were killed, and one of the suspected attackers was captured alive, reports Reuters.
Friday’s attack is the deadliest in the Horn of Africa since the 2022 twin car bombings that killed 100 and injured 300.
