What are the most innovative products and technologies?

26 companies and 11 scientific institutes participate with their developments in eight categories of the Competition for innovations. A 12-member expert jury will determine the most avant-garde of 47 claimed products and technologies. Some of them are new varieties of tomatoes, winter varieties of barley and wheat, sunflower, cotton, tobacco, alfalfa and hybrid fodder corn. Several innovative technologies for seed production, production and cultivation of annual and perennial crops are presented.

The most serious competition is in the section with fertilizers and preparations for plant protection. Bulgarian and foreign companies present organic products to deal with pests, to strengthen the soil and increase yield, technologies based on certain enzymes and trace elements such as copper, zinc and others are advocated.

In the machinery and equipment section, interesting exhibits such as: inter-row shredder, GPS and laser leveling scraper, self-propelled plant protection sprayer, hay picker, robotic lawnmower with wireless installation, digital assistant in agriculture, manual of technological instructions and others compete.

In the wine, spirits and food categories, there are both products and production technologies. Natural juniper liqueur, wine from extinct Bulgarian varieties, chardonnay with gold particles, biodiabetic biscuits, chocolate halva with nuts and dried fruits without sugar, several types of cheese, enzyme technologies for food production, wine and fruit drinks are impressive. The winners of the innovation prize will be announced at the official ceremony, which will take place on February 22, Thursday, at 5:00 p.m. in the Plovdiv Hall of the Congress Center at the Plovdiv International Fair.

Nearly 200 wines and spirits are competing for medals from “Winery 2024”, which will be held from February 20 to 24 at the Plovdiv International Fair. The tastings include samples from Bulgaria, Italy, Romania, Moldova, Turkey and Greece.

Based on the received samples, two commissions were formed. The wines are presented in six groups – white, rosé and red from the latest and older vintages. They are evaluated according to the 100-point system of the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV) and are contenders for the “Golden rhyton”.

“The number of samples from abroad is increasing. This year we received wines from Italy, Romania, Moldova, Greece and Turkey. Competition with Bulgarian wines is intensifying. The majority of the presented samples are of red wines from old vintages,” commented the chairman of the Union of Oenologists in Bulgaria, Eng. Stanimir Stoyanov. He specified that nearly a third of the contenders for “Golden rhyton” were aged red wines, followed by young whites and rosettes. “The quality of the provided wines is extremely good and they were rated highly by the tasters,” said Eng. Stoyanov. He added that this year there are sparkling Bulgarian and foreign wines, unlike the previous one.

13 top tasters evaluate the wine samples this year. They are members of the Union of Oenologists in Bulgaria, professors from the University of Food Technology and specialists in the wine sector. More than half of them are international tasters in prestigious world competitions. The famous Italian sommelier Maurizio Ferreri, who is popular as an ambassador of Italian culture around the world, is once again a member of the Winery’s tasting commissions.
