36.6% more guests in Latvian tourist accommodation in March than at the beginning of the pandemic

In March 2022, 47,100 foreign guests were served in tourist accommodation, which is 6.5 times more than in March 2021. The number of nights spent by them has increased 5.1 times and was 89,600. In turn, the number of residents of Latvia served, compared to March 2021, has increased by 50.7% and was 61,700. was 112,500.

In the 1st quarter of 2022, 276,400 foreign and local guests were served in Latvian tourist accommodation establishments, which is 2.1 times more than in the 1st quarter of 2021.

Guests spent 512,000 nights in tourist accommodation establishments, which is 96.3% more than in the 1st quarter of the previous year. The average length of stay was 1.9 nights.

In the 1st quarter of 2022, 113,000 foreign guests were served in tourist accommodation, which is five times more than in the 1st quarter of the previous year. The number of nights spent increased 4.1 times to 222,400 nights. Most foreign guests were from Lithuania (17,600), Estonia (14,100), Germany (10,400), the United Kingdom (9,400), Russia (6,100), Poland (5,600), Ukraine (5,500) and Finland (3,900).

Of the foreign guests, 34.7% or 39,300 were from neighboring countries – Lithuania (15.6%), Estonia (12.5%), Russia (5.4%) and Belarus (1.2%).

The highest number of foreign guests was received in Riga – 82.9%, Jurmala – 5.1%, Liepaja – 2.6%, Mārupe region – 1.3% and Sigulda region – 1.2%.

In the 1st quarter of 2022, 163,400 inhabitants of Latvia were served in tourist accommodation establishments, which is by 50.3% more than in the 1st quarter of 2021.

The number of nights spent increased by 40.1% year-on-year to 289,500.

The most popular accommodation places for Latvian residents were in Riga, where 31.5% of guests stayed, in Jurmala – 16.5%, in Liepaja – 6.5%, in Sigulda region – 5.1%, in Cesis region – 4.2%, in Daugavpils – 3, 9%, in Kuldīga region – 2.6%, in Madona region – 2.5% and in Valmiera region – 2.4%.

CONTEXT:
