35th Meeting of Gulf Olympic Committees Approves First Gulf Youth Games in UAE

Muscat, 16 October / WAM / The 35th meeting of Their Highnesses, Excellencies and Excellencies, Heads of the Olympic Committees of the Gulf Cooperation Council, today, Monday, in the sister Sultanate of Oman, approved the holding of the first Gulf Youth Games in the UAE in April 2024, and the final proposal for the timetable and competition program was later submitted to General Secretariat for final approval.
Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Vice President of the National Olympic Committee, headed the UAE delegation participating in the meeting, accompanied by His Excellency Faris Al Mutawa, Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee, and a number of members of the Olympic Committee’s Board of Directors, namely His Excellency Major General Dr. Mohammed Al Murr, Nasser Al Tamimi and Amal Bouchlakh, in addition to Mohammed bin Darwish, Executive Director of the Committee.
The meeting witnessed the adoption and review of some recommendations received from members of the Executive Office of Their Highnesses, Excellencies and Excellencies, Presidents of the Gulf Olympic Committees during their 97th meeting, yesterday, Sunday, regarding the items of the meeting’s agenda.
The first item related to developing and strengthening the joint sports work system was reviewed, in a way that contributes to strengthening the capabilities of the Gulf Olympic Committees and empowering them to ensure their continued development of the Gulf sports work system.
It was also reviewed and approved to activate the mechanism for exchanging experts and specialists in the sports field between the GCC countries, according to the fields, programs and specified period, and to activate the General Secretariat’s initiative for on-the-job training, and to urge the Olympic committees to hold more specialized courses and workshops in the sports field, provided that they provide Member States of the General Secretariat will provide conferences, workshops and specialized events in the sports field for the year 2024.
The attendees reviewed the fourth item on international cooperation, and it was approved to assign a working group to examine aspects of joint international cooperation, to prepare an evaluation of the existing strategic dialogues in the field of sports, to propose specific programs that keep pace with the future aspirations and interests of athletes, and to discuss the possibility of opening new channels with brotherly and friendly countries and international organizations in the field. Sports field.
The attendees were briefed on the item related to the Sports Advisory Committee, which includes 4 advisory committees for organizing and following up on joint sports work, namely the Sports Committee, the Women’s Sports Committee, the Athletes Committee, and the Paralympic Sports Committee.
It was agreed to approve and confirm the names of the Olympic committees’ candidates in the Sports Advisory Committee, provided that all advisory committees follow a unified mechanism without conflict among themselves when carrying out the tasks and duties assigned to them.
The meeting witnessed the approval of the project for the unified electronic platform for Gulf women’s sports, which was proposed by the UAE, related to the women’s component, and included in the combined sports tournaments.
The date for holding the first Gulf Games for Futsal and Martial Arts was also approved from September 30 to October 9, 2024 in Saudi Arabia, and the games included in its competition schedule were approved.
The attendees agreed to approve and confirm the names of the Olympic Committees’ candidates in the Sports Advisory Committee for a period of 4 years, and to change the name of the Athletes Advisory Committee to the Players Advisory Committee.
