Press release – August 6, 2024 12:38
On Sunday, August 11, 2024, the 35th edition of the traditional Kiel event will take place in the Kiel Inner Fjord, on the Kiellinie and on the Reventlouwiese at the sailing camp. Demand was high, so the organization team was able to announce on June 1 that the event was fully booked. A total of almost 650 participants will face the challenges of this fascinating endurance triathlon. 450 of them will complete a sprint competition over 500m swimming, 22 km cycling and 5 km running either as individuals or in a team relay. The first start will be at 9:00 a.m.
The highlight of the day awaits spectators in the afternoon from 2:45 p.m. As part of the Schleswig-Holstein regional league, a so-called team relay will take place over the super sprint distance (300 m swimming, 5.5 km cycling and 1.5 km running). Each of the team members, four in the men’s and three in the women’s and mixed teams, must complete the full distance. Lots of action and frequent position changes are expected in the immediate vicinity of the sailing camp.
More than 150 helpers from the organizing USC Kiel, from other friendly clubs, volunteers from the Kiel population and rescue workers from the DRK and the DRK water rescue service will ensure that everything runs smoothly. “We would like to thank all volunteers, our loyal sponsors and the state capital Kiel for their support, without which this event would not be possible,” said organizing chief Bernd Lange.
