At around 8 p.m., the man wanted to cross the street at the Maritim Hotel. After the traffic lights he entered the street. There is no secure transition there. The man from Baden-Württemberg probably climbed over a cordon to follow his companions, as a spokesman for the Cologne police confirmed to 24RHEIN. Then the 35-year-old was hit by the car of a 34-year-old man.
The 35-year-old was resuscitated on the spot and then taken to a hospital. Doctors were still fighting for the man’s life and performed emergency surgery. But on Saturday night he succumbed to his injuries. The Deutzer Bridge remained closed to car traffic for hours in the direction of Cologne-Deutz. Emergency chaplains looked after those involved, the relatives of the accident victim and the witnesses. Contrary to media reports to the contrary, the police have not filed a complaint against the driver, as the spokesman said.
A few weeks ago there was a fatal accident in Cologne. There, two cars collided in an intersection area, a 21-year-old was fatally injured.
