35 residents died of Covid-19, the epidemic episode “ends”

The epidemic episode of Covid-19 which began at the end of November at the nursing home at Sully-sur-Loire hospital, in Loiret, “is nearing completion and should be closed in the next few days”, indicates the regional health agency of Center-Val de Loire, interviewed this Monday by France Bleu Orléans.

Negative tests last week and vaccination in progress

“Screening of professionals continues every week (for volunteer staff). The results of the PCR tests of professionals screened last week are negative “, explains the ARS. And reason for hope: the second injection as part of the vaccination of residents of the nursing home begins this week and will be spread over two weeks.

35 dead according to the ARS, 40 says the CGT

But the results of this cluster are terrible: thirty-five residents died from Covid-19 in this Ehpad since the end of November, according to the regional health agency. Sylvie Bertuis, departmental secretary of the CGT Santé union, ensures for his part that the number of deaths of residents in the nursing home of Sully-sur-Loire hospital is forty: “We have the reports of the number of deaths due to Covid-19 via staff of the establishment. Obviously, these are not necessarily the figures sent by the management of the nursing home to the ARS …”

Sylvie Bertuit personally intervened in mid-January to denounce the dysfunctions within the nursing home of the Sully-su-Loire hospital, after being alerted by caregivers of the establishment: “There were no masks available. The staff asked for means of protection, namely FFP2 masks, they were initially refused. Then, when we finally obtained them, we realized that they had expired since 2018!“. Since then, the situation has been resolved, assures the unionist.

Pressure on nursing staff to come back to work before the end of the septaine “

In this Ehpad, in addition to 103 positive cases for Covid-19 detected among residents (figures from the regional health agency), the caregivers were also infected (31 staff positive for Covid). “There is pressure on the staff, threats to those who are stopped after being infected, to come back to work! This is not acceptable: a staff who has tested positive must remain isolated for seven days. Otherwise, there is a risk of infecting the others, but obviously as we lack personnel, we put pressure on them “, accuses Sylvie Bertuit, according to whom “this is happening in other hospitals and nursing homes in Loiret”.

We could not reach the management of the Sully-sur-Loire hospital on Monday.
