The most recent update, the fourth, in the classification of municipalities by the four levels of epidemiological risk was revealed by the Government on Thursday and the measures will be applied depending on the level of risk between 24 December and 7 January, the validity period of the renewed emergency state.
The Executive continues to group, for the purpose of restrictions, the municipalities in the two most serious levels of risk.
The municipalities are classified into four levels: moderate risk (less than 240 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants in the previous 14 days); high (240 to 480); very high (480 to 960) and extreme (960 or more cases).
In view of the list that referred to the period from 19 November to 2 December – which served as the basis for the application of restrictions during the current state of emergency – the number of municipalities in the two highest echelons decreased from 113 to 109.
But almost half of the 278 municipalities in mainland Portugal saw their level change. More specifically, 69 municipalities moved to a more serious level of risk, while 55 registered an improvement in the situation that allowed them to step down.
The distribution is now of 30 municipalities at extreme risk, five less than in the list in force until 00:00 on December 24, 79 at very high risk (one more), 92 at high risk (without variation) and 77 in moderate risk (four more).
Among the most severe measures was the mandatory curfew on weekends between 13:00 and 05:00, however, on Saturday 26 December, due to Christmas, curfew is imposed only from 23:00 , and on Sunday, the 27th, the curfew takes effect in the municipalities in the two worst echelons starting at 13:00.
On the following weekend, from 2 and 3 January, the curfew at 13:00 applies to the entire continental territory.
