342 new infections, two deaths since Friday

Another school in Manitoba has been moved to the restricted level (orange) in the province’s epidemic response system, where unvaccinated students now self-isolate.

It affects grade 11/12 at the Ecole Regionale Notre Dame, located at Notre Dame de Lourdes.

It comes as Manitoba’s COVID-19 test positivity rate has risen nearly three-quarters of a percent, and the province has reported 342 cases since Friday, along with two deaths.

The positive result from the five-day test is now 4.6 percent in the county and 1.6 percent in Winnipeg.

One of the deaths was of a man in his 70s from the Prairie Mountain Health District on Saturday and was linked to an outbreak at Benito’s Personal Care Home and a worrisome unspecified formula. The other death was a woman in her 70s from the Northern Health District.

The county also provided information on the two deaths reported Friday. Deaths of a woman and a man in their sixties from the South Health District. The death of man is associated with an indefinite formula.

Of the new cases, 97 were reported on Saturday, 149 were reported on Sunday, and another 96 were reported on Monday.

From Friday to Monday, the Southern Health District reported the most new cases, while Winnipeg recorded 95 new cases. The Northern and Prairie Health Districts have reported 41 cases with 40 new COVID-19 infections in the Interlake-Eastern Health District.

Most of the 96 COVID-19 infections that occurred Monday remain among people who have not been fully vaccinated, and county data shows 62 infections in people who have not been fully vaccinated.

The Southern Health District registered 45 new cases on Monday, of which 37 were not fully vaccinated. There were eight new cases in each of the North and Prairie Health Districts, with three and five cases, respectively, in people who had not been fully vaccinated.

The Interlake-Eastern Health District recorded 13 new cases, of which ten were not fully vaccinated, and the Winnipeg Health District reported 22 new cases, of which seven were not fully vaccinated.

Currently, 98 people from Manitoba are hospitalized with COVID-19, with 71 patients having active cases of the virus. Of those who have been hospitalized, 25 are in the intensive care unit and 20 are patients who have active cases of the virus.

There are currently 1,273 active cases of the virus with 61,167 recoveries since the beginning of the epidemic.

The county’s total number of laboratory confirmed cases is now 63,688 after seven cases were eliminated due to data correction. The county’s total death toll is now 1,248.

The county completed 1,954 COVID-19 tests on Sunday, bringing the total number of tests completed since February 2020 to 10.92,303.
