3,410 cocoa-growing families in Vraem receive technical assistance from Devida.

With the objective of improving the economy of the families that opted for sustainable alternative crops in the Valley of the Apurímac, Ene and Mantaro Rivers (Vraem), the National Commission for Development and Life without Drugs (Devida) has been providing technical assistance in 3,739 hectares of cocoa crops benefiting 3,410 producer families.

The initiative has a budget of S/12,256,810 for the implementation of the National Policy against Drugs (PNCD) by 2030, for the execution of the technical assistance activity of the value chain in the cultivation of cocoa, which seeks to improve the grain production and productivity.

To this end, Devida professionals provide personalized assistance in weed control, pruning, fertilization, pest and disease management, organic certification, soil fertilization, installation of permanent shade forest species.

Likewise, the production of biofertilizers, installation of compost bins, installation of solar dryers, harvest and post-harvest management, environmental inspection, among other daily activities in the growth and production stages.

In addition, in its fifth year of direct intervention in the area, it is scheduled to deliver tools and supplies such as high-altitude shears, pruning saws, organic fertilizer, island guano, and other supplies that allow good agronomic management to be developed and production to increase. of cocoa in the varieties CCN-51, VRAE 15, VRAE 99, Bella Vista, among others.

In this sense, this intervention comprises 1,386 hectares in the growth stages and 2,353 hectares in the production stage in 137 communities. Of the total, Devida serves 85 native communities and 52 settler communities, in the north, center and south of the valley.
