34.2 degrees in the hottest place in Brabant: another notch on Tuesday

34.2 degrees in Woensdrecht is the highest temperature measured in our province on Monday. Gilze-Rijen remained just below 34 with 33.9 degrees. And in Eindhoven and Volkel the mercury rose to 33.5 and 33.3 degrees respectively.

In Zeeland it was even warmer on Monday. In Westdorpe to be precise, the highest temperature in the Netherlands was measured at 35.4 degrees. Temperatures that were reached between four and five o’clock on Monday afternoon, according to weather agency Weerplaza. Weatherman Raymond Klaassen notes that 35 degrees is really special for the Netherlands.

We can, however, get our chests wet, because Tuesday the temperature will kick it up a notch. Tuesday will be the hottest day of the week anyway. And perhaps of the year, a colleague of Klaassen, Wouter van Bernebeek, indicated earlier on Monday.

“Then we will go to temperatures of 36 to 38 degrees and it is not excluded that it can reach 39 or even 40 degrees locally along the border with Belgium,” he said. “A good reason to avoid exercise during the day.”

We will keep a heat blog on Monday and Tuesday. Look here for today’s blog.
