330 confirmed cases in France, including a woman for the first time

On Thursday, French health authorities announced that 330 cases of monkey pox had been infected, adding that the first infected woman had a partner who had previously reported a rash. The French Health Agency said 330 confirmed cases of monkey pox had been reported in France as of June 23, 2022.

And the previous report, Tuesday, reported 277 cases, including a woman for the first time.

“The (untested) partner reported getting a rash three weeks ago,” the health service said on Thursday.

To date, the current outbreak of monkeypox, which affects about 40 countries, is mainly, but not exclusively, related to men who have had same-sex relationships, with no direct link to people returning from endemic areas.

WHO calls for vigilance and transparency

The World Health Organization on Thursday called on countries to be vigilant and transparent in the face of a rare outbreak of more than 3,200 cases of monkeypox worldwide, pending a decision on whether or not to launch the highest alert. Faced with this situation, the World Health Organization on Thursday brought together international experts to determine whether the situation constitutes a “public health emergency of international concern”, as it did with the Covid-19 pandemic.

The decision should in any case be known on Friday.

More real cases

There has been an unusual increase in monkey pox cases since May outside of West and Central African countries where the virus naturally circulates. The European region is the epicenter of the virus spread.

“We need all countries to remain vigilant and build capacity to prevent the transmission of monkeypox virus. Many countries may have missed opportunities to identify cases, including those that have not been transmitted,” said WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. Been there recently on a trip.

The World Health Organization believes the true number of cases is likely to be higher and believes the virus must have spread before the current outbreak — perhaps since 2017 — without revealing its transmission.

no deaths

Monkeypox first appears as a high fever and quickly develops into a rash. The disease, which has hitherto been seen in dozens of African countries, usually resolves spontaneously after two to three weeks.
