33 people may have died from suicide powder

According to the Public Prosecution Service, more people have used the suicide drug that was sold by a man from Eindhoven than the six that the justice system has assumed so far. During the trial against the man, which started today, it became clear that 33 people who bought the suicide powder from him are no longer alive. According to the OM, 15 people have been proven to have used the powder they had bought from him.

Alex S. was arrested in July on suspicion of assisted suicide. According to the Public Prosecution Service, he may have sold the drug to nearly seven hundred people.

He is also suspected of violation of the Medicines Act and money laundering. In addition to the suicide powder, he sold the anti-emetic domperidone, which is only available with a doctor’s prescription.

S. would have sold the suicide drug from 2018 to June 2021. He offered it on the internet. He used messaging service Telegram and ProtonMail, an encrypted e-mail service, among other things. Interested parties could have it sent to them for 20 euros or they could pick it up in Eindhoven.

According to the OM, the man provided the drug to anyone who wanted it.

Last Will

S. is a member of Coöperatie Laatste Wil (CLW), an organization that advocates self-determination around the deathbed. Until August, the organization still held living room meetings in North Brabant, but these were stopped following the arrest of S.

Last Wil investigated the role of S. and stopped the meetings because the organization had indications that people made agreements afterwards about the purchase and sale of suicide powder.

Two other members were killed last week detained because they had purchased the powder from S. CLW is in favor of a legal drug that could allow people to end their lives, but is against the illegal supply of it.

The chairman of CLW, Jos van Wijk, was arrested last month on suspicion of involvement in assisted suicide. Van Wijk is also suspected of participating in a criminal organization whose intent is to commit or plan assisted suicide.
