33 people infected with Covid-19; three deaths were registered in Latvia

On Midsummer’s Day, June 23, 2246 Covid-19 examinations were performed in Latvia. 33 new cases of coronavirus infection have been registered, informs the Center for Disease Prevention and Control.

Three Covid-19 deaths were registered in Latvia last day. One person died between the ages of 50 and 59 and two people between the ages of 80 and 89. So far, 2,500 people with this disease have died in Latvia.

The two-week cumulative rate of Covid-19 per 100,000 population has dropped from 89.2 to 80.6, according to data compiled by the Center for Disease Prevention and Control.

The last time this indicator was lower was recorded on October 22, 2020, however, the epidemiological situation in Jānis in Latvia this year is much worse than last year, because then the cumulative indicator of Covid-19 was even lower than 1.

The proportion of positive cases against the tested ones was 1.5%. The proportion of positive tests below 4% in Latvia has been observed for about a month, but so far it has not decreased below 1%.

In Latvia, a total of 137,110 people have contracted Covid-19.

Given the current long holidays, when fewer Covid-19 tests are usually performed, and thus fewer new cases are detected, it is expected that in the coming days the Covid-19 rate could continue to decline and Latvia could apply for entry into the European Union (EU). in the list of “green countries”, which would mean less restrictions on movement. According to information disseminated by the EU, this list includes countries with a cumulative test rate of less than 75 and a positive test rate of less than 1%, while if the positive test rate is between 1% and 4%, the cumulative rate should be below 50%.
