33 accused and for 5M€ of drugs seized in February

Even if a press release does not allow us to know, we can imagine that the prefect of Côte-d’Or, Fabien Sudry, and the public prosecutor of Dijon, Olivier Caracotch, had a smile when taking stock of the month of February 2022 on the frontline of the fight against drug trafficking and use. By their own admission, the past few weeks have provided “results
significant” with a “record month of February”.

And the numbers listed speak for themselves. In February, the seizures made during 99 operations represented “a monetary equivalent of €5,383,707”. The police thus got their hands on “504.10 kg of cannabis (estimated resale price of €5,033,601), 211.34 g of cocaine (estimated resale price of €13,948), 291, 90 gr of heroin (estimated resale price of €9,633), 66.58 kg of ecstasy (estimated resale price of €166,450) and €160,075 in cash”.

On the sidelines of these operations, 33 people were “implicated”.

Significant resources mobilized

To achieve these results, substantial resources are mobilized daily in the department. According to the press release from the prefecture and the prosecutor, “for the police and gendarmerie crews alone, more than 1,200 hours were devoted to the fight against drug trafficking during their daily patrols”. 28 criminal fixed fines for the consumption of narcotics have for example been issued.

And to detail: “This sustained mobilization aims to destabilize the deal points to restore the quality of life of our fellow citizens who suffer from this daily traffic. In this regard, since February 1, the Government has created a lump-sum criminal fine of 200 euros for the illegal occupation of building halls: it allows the police to immediately sanction such behavior, within a framework set by the public prosecutor. of the Republic. Verbalizations have already taken place. “.

Customs on their way

After an already successful month of January, Dijon customs officers have made two more large seizures in recent weeks, as the press release recalls, by intercepting convoys transporting, for one nearly 500 kg of herbal cannabis and for another 66.58 kg of ecstasy in Saône-et-Loire during checks carried out on motorways.
