32-year-old female was molested during National Day holiday in Mui Wo
A 32-year-old woman went to Mui Wo with her friends during the National Day holiday. She was suspected of being molested by a man on Mui Wo Rural Committee Road, South Lantau, at about 6 pm in the evening. The man then ran away. The Lantau Police District took over the investigation. After intelligence analysis, a 38-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of “indecent assault” in Bai Yin Township, Mui Wo, at about 7:30 pm on the same day. He was temporarily released on bail pending investigation and must report to the police in early October. The case was handed over to Team 5 of the Lantau Police District Investigation Team for follow-up.
Indecent assault punishable by ten years in prison
The police remind that according to Section 122 of the Crimes Ordinance, Chapter 200 of the Laws of Hong Kong, “indecent assault” is a serious crime and upon conviction, the person may be sentenced to up to ten years’ imprisonment. The police will deploy officers in military uniforms and plain clothes to patrol, and appeal to the public not to break the law.
