32-Year-Old Belgian Arrested for Causing Serious Traffic Disruption in Maastricht

Dec 3, 2023 at 12:35 PM Update: 43 minutes ago

A 32-year-old Belgian has been arrested after causing serious traffic disruption in Maastricht with his car on the night of Saturday to Sunday. He was heavily under the influence of alcohol.

The man drove much too fast in the city center, against traffic and over the sidewalk. When the Belgian was stopped, he left his car in the middle of the road and fled on foot.

He was caught a little later and was eventually allowed to surrender his driver’s license. A spokesperson for the Royal Military Police reports that the man had eleven times the alcohol level in his blood.

There were open bottles of liquor in his car. According to the spokesperson, eleven times too much alcohol is “really a lot, more than above average”.

The Public Prosecution Service decides what will happen to the Belgian.
