A passenger and freight train collided head-on
32 people have died and more than 80 have been injured in a train crash in northern Greece. A passenger train traveling from Athens to Thessaloniki collided head-on shortly before midnight with a freight train near the city of Larissa.

The reasons for the accident are not yet clear. The impact was very strong and the first four carriages of the passenger train derailed. According to the local authorities, the first two wagons were almost completely destroyed after being engulfed by the fire that broke out.
Due to the extremely severe collision, the evacuation of the passengers was carried out under very difficult conditions. A total of 350 people traveled on the passenger train, which left Athens at 19:30.
