32% of Latvians want to continue working remotely

It is interesting that after the end of the crisis, people living in Riga (39%) and Pieriga (36%) want to work remotely more. In Vidzeme, 30% of residents express a desire to work remotely, in Latgale – 27%, in Zemgale – 25%, but the least in Kurzeme – 24%.

“These results clearly show that working remotely is a privilege and accessible to very specific social groups. You could even say – for the middle class of Latvia. This makes it necessary to evaluate not only the specifics of these jobs and how the conditions of the pandemic may change the dynamics of the work environment, but also to keep in mind all those jobs that can not be “removed”. As we have seen, it is precisely the professions whose function requires attendance that have been the most socially important during the crisis. This observation should stimulate a general discussion about which works are valued higher – both morally and monetaryly, ”says Andris Šuvajevs, an anthropologist of economics.

“The current situation with the spread of the virus has forced us to change our various daily habits and look at how we work, learn and organize our daily lives from a different perspective. This crisis is likely to have a greater long-term impact on these processes than we can currently foresee. If before the crisis many did not really think about the possibility of working remotely, then life actually forced it and, as it turns out, a large number of people want to continue working remotely. It will be a new challenge for companies – how to organize their internal work processes in the future, how to be productive in the long run, how to balance the wishes of the company and employees, “says Aija Bite-Ozere, Tele2’s HR Manager.” We have now decided to allow employees to work remotely until autumn. , while also providing the opportunity to work in the office, if necessary. We can afford it, because Tele2’s work culture has previously encouraged employees to work independently, as well as employees have all the necessary technical equipment. ”

As previously reported, for three months, helping the country overcome the socio-economic conditions caused by the coronavirus, Tele2 offered customers with limited access to the mobile Internet unlimited access to Internet services at an additional cost, which was highly valued by customers to work and study remotely. . The total amount of data provided to customers is estimated at about 7 million. in euros.

In order to find out how the skills of the population have changed in the emergency situation in Latvia, the mobile operator “Tele2” conducted a # survey of residents’ experience in cooperation with “Norstat”, and 1011 respondents participated.
