311 thousand BRI customers have difficulty paying debts of IDR 12.74 trillion

PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk or BRI has carried out credit restructuring for 4,001,216 customers with a value of IDR 256.38 trillion. This realization was recorded as of September 2022.

Credit restructuring is a program within the framework of the COVID-19 pandemic to help micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) who have the potential to experience difficulties in paying their obligations. This program has been run by the Financial Services Authority (OJK) since March 2020 and has been extended to 2024.

“We need this, even though I can honestly say that BRI has reserved more than enough, but I believe and believe that the OJK is very knowledgeable about the situation in the banking and financial industry. So this policy still needs to be extended,” said BRI Main Director Sunarso in a working meeting with Commission XI DPR RI, Tuesday (24/1/2023).

Sunarso revealed the remaining credit restructuring BRI as of September 2022 of IDR 116.45 trillion. Simultaneously, the number of credit restructuring customers affected by COVID-19 has also decreased to 1,390,736 customers.

Of the more than 4 million customers who received credit restructuring, Sunarso said 53.1% or 2,124,602 customers were able to pay. Then there were 174,565 customers who actually released credit restructuring and became healthy again.

“Can pay Rp. 91.6 trillion, there is a broken Rp. 43.23 trillion in full, there are those who are able to reduce the principal according to the restructuring provisions, Rp. 11.08 trillion, and there are those who are paid off and then take it again, Rp. 37.27 trillion. Then the restructuring is released meaning he is healthy again, Rp. 35.6 trillion,” he explained.

However, there are also customers BRI who really could not be saved through credit restructuring, namely as many as 311,313 customers with a value of IDR 12.749 trillion.

“From the pandemic until now, the accumulation of restructured MSME loans is Rp. 256.376 trillion. The result that really cannot be saved is only Rp. 12.749 trillion,” he said.
