Floods: 31 years later, Nîmes continues its protection work
In Nîmes, following the murderous floods of Monday, October 3, 1988 (9 deaths), the risk reduction fight is still continuing. In 33 years, 245 million euros have been injected into the protection of the city with the construction of 22 water retention basins and the widening of cadereaux (pipes which cross the city mainly underground). Infrastructures which received this Friday, September 10, 2021 the visit of the new prefect of Gard and Patrick Soulé Deputy Director of the General Directorate of Risk Prevention who responded to the invitation of Franck Proust, President of Nîmes Métropole, now a community in charge of GEMAPI (Management of aquatic environments and flood prevention). Objectives, have the state validate part of the funding for future works included in PAPI 3 (flood prevention and action program) planned between 2022 and 2028 and estimated at € 116 million.
