About 50 bullets hit 31-year-old Svetoslav Slavkov, who died at the front in Ukraine, fighting against the Russians. The young man, who is from the blue campaigner, was ambushed along with a squad of 20 fighters. The occupiers opened fire from two sides and killed four on the spot, including Svetlio. The rest got away with a good fight and a few wounded.

The place is flat, bare, one has nowhere to hide, barring bomb craters. The fighting broke out in the so-called “no man’s land” – that is, several hundred meters along the front, which are not controlled by either the Ukrainians or the Russians. They are under heavy fire, so he is not hired to collect the bodies of the dead.

Along with Svetlio, there is another Bulgarian in the squad. However, he is a much more experienced soldier – he already participated in the first conflict in Ukraine in 2014, then he was on a mission in Afghanistan. Mercenaries in Ukraine receive 3000 dollars a month, but ours went to fight selflessly, for the idea.

Already in the summer, Slavkov said that he wanted to go to the front. From the “blue” ranks, they immediately collected about BGN 8,000 for him to be equipped with the most modern winter clothing, like in the American army. Svetlio got himself a brand new helmet, bulletproof vest and shooting speedometer.

Initially, he was refused to be included in the combat units due to lack of military training. However, the other Bulgarian helped him and in the end he was enrolled as a volunteer to the 40th KODAK Rifle Battalion.
