A look back at the fire at the Parliament of Brittany which occurred 30 years ago on the night of February 4 to 5, 1994 in Rennes. The building ravaged by the flames was rebuilt identically and is today one of the monuments to visit in the Breton capital.

30 years ago the Parliament of Brittany was ravaged by a fire. It was on the night of February 4 to 5, 1994 after a day of clashes between fishermen and the police while the Prime Minister at the time Edouard Balladur was in Rennes to sign a State-Region plan.

The building which housed the courthouse was almost completely destroyed by the flames. It took 10 years to rebuild it exactly. Today, while it still welcomes the Court of Appeal but also many tourists who want to know the history of this emblematic place of Brittany.
