PEOPLE’S MIND – Of the various HIV cases that are frequently published, it is very rare to disclose data on HIV-infected pregnant women. Although data on pregnant women with HIV are available in Ministry of Health.
So far, people only know about HIV transmission horizontally. For example the transmission from male buyers to female prostitutes. Or transmission to the gay community and transmission among injecting drug users.
Transmission from mother to child is commonly referred to as vertical transmission. Two generations of transmission. A pregnant mother who is infected with HIV has the potential to pass it on to her baby. Transmission can occur during pregnancy, childbirth, or breastfeeding.
In 2022 Ministry of Health conducted HIV testing throughout the province from January to June. The results of the 1,172,846 pregnant women who were tested found that 3,015 were infected with HIV or 0.26%.

In 2021, out of 2,485,430 pregnant women tested, 0.18% of pregnant women were found to be HIV infected or 4,446 people. In 2020, out of 2,404,754 pregnant women tested for HIV, 2,094 were found to be HIV infected or 0.25%.
Over the past three years, pregnant women who have tested positive for HIV and the results are between 0.18 and 0.26%. The number of pregnant women in Indonesia for one year averages 5 million. Using the percentage hypothesis, it is estimated that there are 9,000 to 10,000 pregnant women living with HIV.
The highest cases of pregnant women with HIV for three consecutive years were found in Central Java. In 2020 there were 1,437 HIV positive pregnant women. In 2021, 1,328 cases were found. As of June 2022, 1,134 HIV-infected pregnant women were detected.

The second place is held by East Java from 2020, 2021 and June 2022 with 807, 600 and 329 HIV pregnant women.
