A hillside farm, spanning 300 acres, situated in a remote part of Co. Kerry will be auctioned next month. The lands at Gearhameen are located in the Black Valley in the southern end of MacGillycuddy’s Reeks mountain range. The valley is known to have been connected to the national electricity grid in 1976 and has since gained popularity as a destination for hikers, walkers, and cyclists.

The farm is part of the Purple Mountain range and offers views of Killarney National Park and its famous lakes. The farm has been used as a sheep farm and is accessible via the Black Valley National School. The auction, which includes 104 entitlements transferring with the sale, will be held on Wednesday, May 10, at 3:00 pm at The Royal Hotel in Killarney by Tom Spillane of Tom Spillane and Company Ltd. The farm has a guide price of €1,500/ac and above, or around €450,000. According to Spillane, the farm would be suitable for young farmers, an upland sheep enterprise, and organic farming.

Despite being recently put on the market, the land has already generated considerable interest among potential buyers. It remains to be seen what demand there will be on the day of the auction, and Spillane is positive about the interest already shown by young farmers in this regard.
