If the inauguration evening highlighted athletes and experienced climbers, François Petit, founder of the group, assures us: climbing, “it is for all audiences, from children aged 3 to seniors aged 97. years “.
This former world climbing champion wanted to democratize this sport by opening rooms where all levels can coexist. Since the birth of Climb Up in Lyon in 1997, the practice has indeed seduced everywhere in France. As proof, the many rooms that have opened their doors in recent years. “The Covid has further accelerated our development. We have a lot of people who have given up on fitness to come to us because climbing makes it possible to build up muscles harmoniously ”, noted François Petit.
Another reason for this craze: climbing would clear your head. “You forget all your problems because you have to be focused on your four points of support. It teaches you to anticipate its movements. The educational aspect also appeals to initiates: the fact of assuring your partner and explaining how to overcome obstacles. Finally the playful side, with these catches of all colors and movements to imagine, allows not to be bored.
Bouldering and tracks
For climbers, amateurs and professionals alike, this new room installed in the city center of Lille is a godsend. “We offer routes where you can climb up to 14 meters high, with a harness and insurance. This is our specificity compared to other rooms where there is block. The block is easier to install because it measures 4.5 meters maximum so it is spreading more and more in the city, ”explains Meryl Wattiau-Beffy, marketing manager at Climb Up.
At Climb Up, there is also a block section, free access. But to climb the routes, it is necessary to be autonomous in the practice of rope climbing. For this, the room gives lessons to adults, but also to children from 3 years old, to discover and progress in climbing.
More than a climbing room, this 3000m² space on 3 levels was designed as a place to live. There are relaxation areas with sofas, a catering center. Between two climbing sessions, it is even possible to work on site, isolating yourself from the noise in “small huts”.
