The American agency Studio Gang publishes its monograph, published by Phaidon. Entitled “Studio Gang: Architecture”, this book illustrates the agency’s philosophy through 300 illustrations and drawings of its most emblematic creations.
Present, inspire and question. This is the ambition of the monograph Studio Gang : Architecture. Published by Phaidon editions, this book looks back on 20 years of work by the American architecture and town planning agency Studio Gang.
This monograph also provides an overview of the philosophy and practices of the agency, founded by Jeanne Gang, guided by themes linked to current environmental and social issues.
Organized into six thematic chapters – Rhythm, Flow, Landward, Up in the canopy, What are you made of? and Beyond transparency – Studio Gang : Architecture brings together 25 projects, presented with 300 sketches, drawings, photographs and computer graphics. We find the most emblematic achievements of the agency, and in particular the Aqua Tower: an 82-storey tower, recognizable for its undulating facade, which in fact resumes the terrestrial topographical characteristics.
Each chapter is introduced by an essay by Jeanne Gang which examines the key concepts common to the various achievements.
The book also presents some of the projects in progress, such as that of the University of Chicago in Paris, a new center for academic and cultural exchange in the 13th arrondissement.
Studio Gang DNA can be found even on the cover of the monograph. Dark green in color, it is set with undulating lines, which certainly evokes the Aqua Tower, but above all the deep interest in nature and natural growth processes.
