300 Antwerp Fans Cause Disturbances in Porto Ahead of Champions League Game

Around 300 Antwerp fans caused disturbances in downtown Porto this Monday night, before the Champions League game taking place today at FC Porto’s home ground, a PSP source told Lusa.

A source from the PSP Porto Metropolitan Command said that the authorities are monitoring the situation to find out what happened.

The disturbances occurred in the riverside area, where the Belgian club’s fans, around 300, gathered, according to the same source. So far, the PSP has not said what damage was caused or whether arrests were made.

The PSP Metropolitan Command of Porto also said that it has the device on site to monitor the Belgian fans, a situation that will continue throughout the night and until the fourth round of the Champions League.

The ‘blue and whites’ face Antwerp today, starting at 8pm, at the Estádio do Dragão, in Porto, for the fourth round of Group H of the Champions League, a few hours after the duel between Shakhtar Donetsk and FC Barcelona, in Hamburg.

Winner of the competition in 1986/87 and 2003/04, FC Porto is in second place in the group, with six points, against nine from the Spanish, who remain in isolated leadership, while the Ukrainians occupy third place, with three, and the Antwerp is last, with no points.
