El Hadji Bamba, a 36-year-old repeat offender, faces life imprisonment for the murder of a kebab server he considered too slow. The verdict is expected this Friday at the end of the day.

The prosecution demanded 30 years of criminal imprisonment on Friday against a man on trial at the Seine-Saint-Denis Assizes for the 2019 murder of a kebab waiter while he was heavily intoxicated and was impatient. “You must do justice in this case and your role is to protect society (…) There is no room for leniency in this case”, declared the Advocate General to the court judging since Tuesday El Hadji Bamba, a 36-year-old multi-recidivist.

On August 16, 2019, the accused entered the heavily alcoholic Le Mistral snack restaurant in Noisy-le-Grand and ordered a sandwich. During the wait, he gets angry with the waiters, becomes threatening. Mohamed Fares Ben Yahiaten, a waiter in charge of preparing the pizzas that day, tries to calm him down and offers him a pizza instead of a sandwich.

El Hadji Bamba gets carried away, threatens him with his handgun bought shortly before on Snapchat. “Make me the sandwich or I’ll kill you”, he says. Then he shoots three times. Two 9mm bullets lodged in the victim’s body, one of which was in the lungs. The employee dies on the spot.

26 convictions on his criminal record

Prosecuted for murder, the accused already has 26 convictions on his criminal record. Violence, driving without a licence, theft, death threats, possession of narcotics… El Hadji Bamba, imprisoned since the incident, has already made five stays in prison, the first when he was a minor.

“Someone who is aware of their violence problem is someone who can be helped. Someone who denies this problem, who blames it on others, is a repeat offender”, scolded the Advocate General in her indictment. He faces life imprisonment. The verdict is expected at the end of the day.
