May 11, 2020, day of deconfinement in France, marks the reopening of schools. In Burgundy-Franche-Comté, for the first two days, teachers find their way back to class for a “pre-school year”. Children will have to wait until Thursday, May 14 to follow them. In Côte-d’Or, 95% of schools will reopen, 80% in the rest of the Dijon academy (Saône-et-Loire, Yonne and Nièvre).
The majority of students stay at home
However, reopening schools does not mean that all children will return immediately. Priority is given to pupils in the Grand Kindergarten, CP and CM2 sections, children of caregivers and parents who have “essential jobs”, children with disabilities or those who are dropping out – around 3% in the region. Guest of France Bleu Bourgogne Monday May 11, the rector of the Dijon academy, Nathalie Albert-Moretti, announces that “30 to 40% of students will physically return to school”. A number “shifting”, which can evolve quickly, since, according to the rector, “parents hesitate” again.
The red that does the job
The return of children to school is done on the basis of parental volunteering, even if some are well obliged since they return physically to work themselves. Nevertheless, for the rector, the Dijon academy “suffers from the fact that the four departments are in red”. According to her, the deconfinement card can have a “strong psychological impact” on the parents.
It is a territorial peculiarity, red is scary
