“I think it is important to say that in most cases a student who is infected can really do nothing about it. It happens to you and I notice that these students find it very annoying and often feel guilty towards the other students in the class ”, writes Jan Paul Beekman, rector director of the lyceum in Amsterdam-Zuid. Beekman continues: “I really want to ask you not to blame this.”
Sent to school with complaints
A number of parents have now admitted to sending their child, who had complaints, to school after their child became infected with the corona virus. Beekman: “Although I understand very well that it is not always convenient to keep the child at home, I would like to emphasize once again that you really shouldn’t do this.”
According to the GGD, most infections take place outside of school. Beekman: “Now is not the time for parties or pleasant evenings with groups of students.” The pupils have a strong need to hang out with each other and have a good time, but according to the school board, this should be carefully considered.
Neatly adhered to prescribed protocol
The rector director writes in his letter that he is in regular contact with the GGD. The school board has been told by the GGD that it adheres to the prescribed protocol properly and that there is no reason to change the policy. “Of course we have scenarios to hand in case the situation deteriorates,” said Beekman.
