Antisemitism rose on college campuses following the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza
About 30% of all anti-Semitic incidents reported worldwide in 2021 occurred in the United States, according to a new report by the Jewish Agency and the World Zionist Organization.
By state, New York saw the most anti-Semitic incidents in 2021, followed by California, Florida, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania. Texas, where a gunman took four people hostage at a synagogue last Saturday, ranks sixth.
The numbers tend to correspond to the size of local Jewish populations in absolute terms.
New York, California and Florida, which ranked first, second and third in terms of anti-Semitic incidents, are also home to the first, second and third largest Jewish populations in the United States.
The report also indicates that anti-Semitic incidents in the United States, home to roughly 40 percent of the world’s Jewish population, are more likely to be physical than verbal.
Outside the United States, anti-Semitic incidents more often take the form of vandalism, with physical violence and verbal assaults occurring less frequently.
Anti-Semitism has increased dramatically on US college campuses in 2021, especially in May, during Israel’s Operation Guardians of the Walls, which is being waged against the terrorist organization Hamas in Gaza.
