The Angels. Thieves stole up to $30 million last Sunday from a money storage facility in Los Angeles, one of the largest cash heists in the city’s history, police said Wednesday.
The robbery took place Sunday night at an unidentified location in the Sylmar area of the San Fernando Valley, where money from businesses throughout the region is handled and stored, the Los Angeles Times reported. the chief of the Los Angeles Police Department, Elaine Morales.
The thieves were able to enter the building and the safe deposit box in which the money was stored, Morales added.
The business operators, whom police did not name, did not discover the theft until they opened the vault on Monday.
The newspaper said it was one of the largest cash robberies in the history of Los Angeles, and the total surpassed any armored truck robbery in the city.
Nearly two years ago, about $100 million in jewelry and other valuables were stolen from a Brink security company truck at a Southern California truck stop. The thieves have not been captured.
