The baby was born in Wuhan last Sunday and was confirmed to be infected 30 hours after birth, as doctors were closely monitoring the child, but they said his condition was stable, and the child was then transferred to the Wuhan Children’s Hospital, which the government prepared to treat all the injured children.
Doctors have warned that the virus may pass from mothers to unborn children, and another 17-day-old child was also found in Wuhan, also with the virus.
Wuhan Children’s Hospital announced through its official social media account today that the condition of the three-day-old child is stable and is being closely monitored.
“This reminds us of the interest in a possible new pathway for coronavirus transmission – from mother to child,” said Dr. Zeng Lingkong, chief physician of the hospital’s newborn pediatrics department.
The newborn is one of two children who were found to be carrying the coronavirus at Wuhan Children’s Hospital.
According to the British newspaper, the death toll from the Corona virus continues to rise, as the life-threatening disease, which can spread through saliva, has killed at least 493 people and infected more than 24,600 people worldwide.
