30 hospitals will focus on healthy nutrition in healthcare

This week, nine hospitals again signed up for their participation in the Vanguard of Good Care Proef Je, a project of Alliance Nutrition in Healthcare, NAGF reports on its website. They are committed to a completely healthy food supply for patients, visitors and employees in 2022. The hospitals inspire and motivate each other through monthly meetings. The meetings are accessible to all hospitals that are actively working as a Good Care Proef Je hospital.

“A total of 30 hospitals are now active in our Good Care Proef Je project. I am proud of that,” says Leonie Horne, project coordinator at Alliantie Voeding in de Zorg. “Six months ago, the first hospitals started in the Voorhoede. Ten hospitals have now also become members of the Goede Zorg Proef Je hospital. With the expansion of our Good Care Proef Je network, we are taking another important step towards achieving the objectives from the National Accelerate prevention agreement.”

The Dietary Center’s Guidelines for Eating Environments form the basis for the healthy food supply in hospitals, in which the focus is on healthy and sustainable choices, including fruit and vegetables.

Share experiences
“In the monthly meetings, hospitals share knowledge and best practices,” Leonie explains. “We also place tools on the Good Care Proef Je website. In this way, hospitals that want to improve their food supply do not have to reinvent the wheel. This week Erasmus MC, Rijnstate and St. Jansdal shared experiences about the tender for a new food concept, respectively. , the implementation of a nutrition vision and the establishment of a nutrition committee in the hospital. Corona has put the importance of a healthy lifestyle even more firmly on the map. The new ways of meeting online make it easier to share knowledge throughout the Netherlands. benefits from that.”

Inspire other healthcare institutions
“Hospitals and healthcare institutions can get started with this network and the tools. In this way they can offer an environment that radiates health and well-being and where the healthy choice is the easy choice,” says Letteke Boot, policy advisor at the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport. Over the past year, the Nutrition Alliance has worked on improving the nutritional range in various rehabilitation institutions. Plans are also being developed together with GGZ institutions. Good Care Proef Je also encourages participating hospitals to inspire healthcare institutions in their region. Healthcare institutions that want to get started can contact the Alliantie Voeding in de Zorg.

Good Care Taste Your Hospitals
Hospitals that are actively working to improve the food supply are welcome in the network of Goede Zorg Proef Je hospitals, even if 2022 is not feasible. After all, all activity contributes to the objective of the National Prevention Agreement: a healthy food supply for patients, visitors and employees for half of all hospitals in 2025 and in all hospitals by 2030.

Fruits and vegetables in healthcare
The National Fruit and Vegetables Action Plan (NAGF) is pleased with the expansion of the Good Care Proef Je network. This ties in well with the mission of the NAGF to increase the consumption of fruit and vegetables by the Dutch, including in healthcare. Healthcare is one of the three spearheads within which the NAGF shapes its activities and projects. The other two spearheads are young families and out-of-home.
