Solar eclipse is the event when the Moon orbits the Earth, the Moon moves between the Sun and Earth. When this happens, the Moon blocks the Sun’s light from reaching Earth.

Partial solar eclipse
A partial solar eclipse occurs when the Sun, Moon and Earth are not aligned. The sun appears to have a dark shadow on a small part of its surface.
Ring Solar Eclipse
An annular solar eclipse occurs when the Moon is at its furthest point from Earth. Since the Moon is farther away, it will appear smaller. This condition does not block the entire view of the Sun.
The Moon in front of the Sun appears as a dark disk on top of the larger Sun-colored disk, creating a ring-like appearance around the Moon.

- Umbra: this shadow gets smaller as it reaches Earth. Umbra is the dark center of the Moon’s shadow. People in the umbra region will see a total eclipse.
- Penumbra: the shadow of the penumbra gets bigger as it reaches Earth. People standing in the penumbra will see a partial eclipse.
To note, a solar eclipse occurs every 18 months somewhere on Earth. Unlike lunar eclipses, solar eclipses last only a few minutes.
It’s also important to remember never to look directly at the Sun. If you do, your eyes can be permanently damaged. The best way to watch events solar eclipse is to use aids such as telescopes, pinhole cameras, sun glasses or DSLR cameras with filters.
